16 A great number of people would also gather from the towns
around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those tormented by unclean spirits,
and they were all cured.
The Apostles were ordinary human beings just like
you and I, however they had extraordinary power. The source of their power
was none other than the power of the Holy Spirit. In this short passage we
read about many things, four of which to take of special note.
First, we see the people were gathered as one; in the same
place, at the same time and on one accord. We possess the ability to gather
in faith and worship freely in the United States; however when we gather
are we all truly on one accord? How many Sundays’ have gone by and yet we
are unable to reconcile with fellow believers in Christ because of
something said in a general body months ago? Healing takes place when
believers gather on one accord.
Second, the Apostles were held in high esteem. If we are called
to be leaders in our churches and in our communities, do the people we
encounter regard us in high esteem? It was once asked if you were on trial
for the charge of being a Christian, would the judge have enough evidence
to convict you? Outside of our behavior in church on Sundays’, during the
rest of the week when we encounter people in our communities, do they
experience Christ? Healing takes place when leaders are led by Godly
motives.
Third, the believers grew in number. We see that the works of
the Holy Spirit through the Apostles resulted in a great number of men and
women added to the Lord. Today, we struggle to keep a hold of members
within the church, let alone add to the numbers of believers. Instead of
believers growing in number, people flee from the church. Healing takes
place when believers share the good news so others may also become
believers.
Fourth, the people experienced the healing power of Jesus Christ
through His agent Peter. Imagine if we allowed Jesus to be the master of
our lives in which we become His agents. His power is unlimited and can
cure not only ourselves but the entire world. Healing takes place when
Jesus Christ is The Cure.
