Live a Life Worthy of Your Calling

18 and that you, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.

We are made of mortal bodies and the end of our bodies will be by death. Sin reigns in our mortal bodies and we are always tempted to obey the lusts of the mortal body. If we surrender to the Lord, we will be living as righteous people. When we surrender to the Lord, sin will not rule us any more since we are not under the law any more. We live under the grace of the Lord, hence will live like those righteous people those who are alive from the dead.

Once you are brought under the grace of the Lord, you cannot sin anymore since you are under the grace of Lord. We are servants of the Lord and servants are to obey the master. Our master is Jesus Christ, who himself obeyed His father in Heaven. He took flesh as a child born in the most neglected way and was greeted by Shepherds, who were also the most neglected people of the society during that time.

Being freed from the sinful nature, we have becomes servants of righteousness, which casts us a responsibility to live a life worthy to our calling. God has expectations from each one of us since our birth was under His plan. It does not matter how long you lived, but it matters how you lived.

God expects us to live according to His plan both in our individual lives, family life,  church life, community life and finally in our official life too. God has called and expected Joseph to obey Him, which he did and accepted Mary as his wife. He also took Mary and child away to another country according to God’s plan. Mary obeyed God by surrendering herself and by accepting her call to be the mother of Jesus, even though she shared her doubt with the angel. Zechariah, the priest who doubted God’s calling has to remain silent until the John the Baptist was born and the naming of the child.

There are several other examples of people in Bible who accepted God’s calling and lived a righteous life. We should be able to live a life without sin and pleasing to our Lord. The message of Christmas is of obedience and living life in the grace of the God with new hopes and aspirations in the New Year. The reason behind the season is not just the birth of Jesus Christ, but the commitment and dedication of two ordinary people Joseph and Mary, thus they became righteous people by following God’s plan.

PRAYER

Gracious Lord, thank you for saving us from our sinful nature and helping us to live a righteous life according to your calling. Enable us to re-dedicate our lives in this New Year and to live a life worthy to your calling. Amen
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
We need to add life to our years and not years to our life.
