God: Our Helper and Redeemer

29 And do not keep striving
for what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. 30 For it is the nations of
the world that strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you
need them. 31 Instead, strive for his
kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
We are at the end of another year. Let us thank God for His care and protection throughout this year. It is a land the Lord your God cares for : the eyes of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.(Deut. 11:12) God is our Saviour and redeemer. Do not forget how kind he is.
This biblical portion (Luke 12: 29-31) tells about faith in God or trust in God. Jesus tells us not to be anxious about anything. Avoid worries in our day to day life. Life is much more valuable than food and clothes. Thank God for all the blessings we have received and do not be worried about what we have not received and the unfulfilled desires."Count your blessings and name them one by one".
Jesus also told us "do not worry about tomorrow". If we knew all good things that were going to happen tomorrow, we would be overly excited today and disappointed tomorrow. If we knew all the bad things in our future, worry and fear and grief would paralyze us today.
Human life is not made perfect by money. All material things do not make one happy. The richest person may not always be the happiest one. The poor need not be sad. The man with more wealth sometimes becomes more anxious. So lead a life free from worries. Can anyone live a bit longer by worrying about it?
We need to fear God and trust in his providence. Don't be afraid or discouraged for the Lord is with you wherever you go. He rescues the poor who call to him and those who are needy and neglected. He has pity on the weak and poor and saves the lives of those in need. God is our helper and redeemer. The believer in Jesus Christ puts his faith in the Lord of the past, present and future.
By faith we can walk securely, one day at a time. That day is today. One who does not trust God becomes fearful and gets easily discouraged. Do not be worried and upset, believe in God because he is the way, the truth and the life. With this hope and faith let us enter into a new year.
What a friend we have in Jesus. All our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry. Everything to God in Prayer. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged. Take it to the Lord in Prayer.

Oh Lord, thank you for
all the blessings that we received today. We are not worthy of all these gifts.
Help us always to love and praise you more than everything else that are only
to make our lives happy and useful. Amen.
