Proclaiming the Good News in Thought, Word and Deed

No one who abides in him sins; no one who sins has either seen him or known him.

In 1 John 3: 1-16, the apostle reminds us of the great gift of love that we have been blessed with as children of God. This gift calls us to live a life of purity and holiness through His Son Jesus Christ and to live and love just as He did. In this passage (v6), we are called as children of God to live righteously and not continue to live in sin. Doing the right thing in our lives, is not always the easiest or most convenient thing to do. Whether in our relationships or our responsibilities, we are constantly challenged with situations that make us choose between doing what is right or wrong, hard or easy. In today’s passage, the apostle is making it clear to us that as children of God, we are called to make those difficult choices in order do to the right thing and live righteously just as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, despite whether it is popular or consequences.

As there are a number of important issues facing us that need real leadership, both domestic and foreign in the recent mid-term elections the American people have spoken that the current state and direction of the nation is not right and needs change. When it comes to addressing the serious issues of immigration reform, terrorism in Syria and Iraq, and the Ebola epidemic in the western African nations, these can only be truly solved with the love and compassion of Christ in our hearts and minds towards our fellow brothers and sisters (v16). As children of God, we are called to think differently, not of this world (v1), but with Christ’s love. As children of God, we are called to proclaim the Good News to all nations (Matthew 28:19), extending compassion and love to all those around us. We cannot isolate ourselves as a community of believers and ignore the issues and suffering around us, that is not the example we see in the life of Christ and how He laid down His life for us.

We, as children of God, are called to proclaim the Good News by reaching out with compassion and addressing, not ignoring, the issues that surround us. Our thoughts, words, and deeds should be our proclamation of the Good News, and the whole world will be better place as it experiences the love of Christ that will manifest as a result!

PRAYER

Dear Lord, allow us to realize that Your love is limitless and can heal all the pain and suffering around us. Strengthen us to be used as your vessels to proclaim the Good News to those around us so that the whole world can experience your love and grace. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Be an agent of change in this world by proclaiming the Good News in your thoughts, words, and deeds!
