Proclamation of the Good News

Mathew Samuel
St. Paul's MTC, TX
7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”

A.W. Tozer once said, “Salvation is from our side a choice; from the divine side it is a seizing upon, an apprehending, a conquest by the Most High God. Our accepting and willing are reactions rather than actions.”

The immediate audience of Isaiah 52 is the people of Israel. They were exiled, and because they were taken from their land, God is promising the good news of the restoration of Israel. Verses one and two is God calling for Jerusalem to wake up! She has been set free! The first two verses portray her to be a sex slave. She has been trafficked from Egypt and Assyria, but now God is coming to rescue her and give her the status of being his daughter.

In verse three, the Lord says, “For you were sold for nothing, and without money you will be redeemed.” He is saying to her, “You have been sold into slavery for far too long. Now I’m coming to bring you home!” That is exactly what Christ has done for us. Ever since the Garden of Eden, humanity was sold for nothing into sin and death, but Christ redeemed us, not with money, but with His own precious blood. In I Peter 1:18-19, Peter writes, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” He gave something that was of far more worth than the things of this world, Himself. That’s how much He loves us, so if you haven’t awoken, it’s time to wake up and rediscover your status as the son or daughter of the Most High God!

Verse seven portrays a picture of the victory. The good news for the ruined Jerusalem, as the Lord brings back the exiles, and the watchmen stand guard, rejoicing because their King has brought His people home. The Good News for us is found in Jesus. He has set us free, and we live in the freedom that the war has already been won by our King Jesus.
As you walk with the Savior, proclaim peace, bring good tidings, proclaim salvation, and tell the people who feel defeated, dejected, and broken, that “Your God reigns!”

PRAYER

We praise You King of Kings, because we are no longer being trafficked for nothing, but You have redeemed us with Your precious blood! We will walk with You, proclaiming Your salvation to the ends of the earth until the day You call us home! Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Live and proclaim freedom, because your God reigns.
