Human Beings: God's Stewards on Earth

Genesis 2:15-17

17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

When we take a look at this passage we see the simplicity of the task God assigns to Adam. God asks Adam to tend the garden, eat anything in that garden, BUT one tree. God gave both Adam and Eve freewill to make their own choices. God trusted that they would obey his one rule and fulfill the one job he gave them. Obviously we know what ends up happening.  Adam and Eve chose to break the one and only rule, and as a result of their misstep, it gives birth to sin in the world. You had one job Adam, just one job…

Then again, who are we to point out Adam’s one mistake? When we take a look at our own lives, we can’t even count the number of times we broke the rules. Just as God trusted Adam and Eve to be caretakers of the garden, God trusts us and calls us to be caretakers of the people in this world. Sin has made the world a very dark place and it is up to us to show people the light.

As Christians, we are given a very important task, and we are expected to be responsible and to set an example for others to follow. Being a Christian is not an easy job. Just as God gave Adam and Eve specific rules to follow, we are expected to follow a set of rules and guidelines that God has laid out for us. At times it may be challenging and difficult to be a Christian, but God came down in the form of man to show us that it is possible to live a holy and righteous life that was free from sin. The example set by Christ is the example we are called to follow.

There are plenty of people that need to see God and it is up to us to be His hands and feet so that we can reach out them. For Adam and Eve their mission field was just the plants and animals in the garden. For us, our mission field includes the people across the face of the earth. In our world today, serving is anything from feeding the homeless to simply showing love to your fellow brothers and sisters. Let us live, love and serve just as Christ did when he walked this earth 2000 years ago.

Prayer: Dear God, we thank you for your forgiveness and your unconditional love. We know that you created us to be your servants to serve in your kingdom. Please use us as your vessels so that we may reflect your light to those around us and bring them back to you. Help us to live a selfless life like you lived. Help us to serve and give sacrificially just as you gave your life as a living sacrifice for our salvation. We thank you for calling us your own. Everything we ask in your holy and precious name. Amen.

Thought for the day: God created us to be His vessels so that we can serve His people.
