Redeeming Christ

In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering.” (V.10)
Have you ever wondered why Jesus had to die on a cross? Why couldn’t he just save us from our sins without dying? The answers to these questions are found in today’s passage.
God’s ways are above our ways. God ordained that His Son, Jesus Christ would be made perfect through suffering. We as his followers are taught in the scriptures that God has ordained for us that we may share in the sufferings of His Son in order that we may also share in His glory. This passage talks to us about the role of Christ in salvation. Jesus took on human form so he could taste death for everyone. It was fitting that Jesus, through whom everything exists, was the author of salvation. Jesus can sympathize with us because He himself underwent the full human experience. He suffered so that He could perfectly intercede for us, drawing from that experience.
Sometimes after a team wins, fans will say, “Our team redeemed themselves today.” In other words, the team had been performing poorly, and they balanced the score card by doing better.
Spiritually speaking, it doesn’t work the same way. No matter how much good we do, we still fall short. Apart from Christ, every one of us owes a sin debt that we can’t repay on our own. Redemption means "to purchase or buy back." Jesus paid the price for our sins. Therefore, we do not have to suffer for them. The famous hymn that we all know says it all…
I will sing of my Redeemer,
And His wondrous love to me;
On the cruel cross He suffered,
From the curse to set me free.

Chorus: Sing, oh, sing of my Redeemer,
With His blood He purchased me,
On the cross He sealed my pardon,
Paid the debt, and made me free.

During this time of Lent, may we spend time thanking God for sending his Son Jesus, the perfect sacrifice on the cross for our sins. May we confess any sin in our life that we haven’t confessed. May we ask God to change us from the inside out.
Prayer: Lord God, strengthen my faith through your Word so I can better realize when I’m tempted. Enable me to walk in the light of Your forgiveness and become all that You desire me to be. In Jesus’ name I pray..... Amen.
Thought for Day:  Trust in the Lord and He will redeem our lives into something beautiful, something useful and something that can really make a difference.
