Jesus the Healer
At
this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak
plainly.
We are all in need of the healing that
only Jesus can provide. In this passage it is a man who cannot hear
and had an impediment in his speech that was cured. The importance
of seeing and hearing correctly is an important concept in Mark
(ex. 4:12, 8:18). So many of the people who were with Jesus
did not believe in him or accept his teachings. Even Jesus’
disciples, who had traveled with him and lived with him, still failed to
properly see who he was and what his mission was.
It is the touch of Jesus that enables a
person to hear and see correctly. It allows a person to properly hear the
word of God. It also allows a person to hear the cry of those around
them. There were many Egyptians who did not hear the cries of the
Israelites, but God heard the cries (Exodus 2:23-25). Today there are
many people all around us crying out for help, crying out for someone to reach
out to them, crying out for someone to help them. God hears their
cries, God notices them. God also expects us to hear them, to notice
them, and to help them. God sent Moses to lead the Israelites out of
slavery and into the Promise Land. Moses was sent to lead the
Israelites out of slavery and into a new relationship with God. This
is a task that each and every one of us is also called to do.
The touch of Jesus also allows a person to
see correctly. It allows a person to correctly see who Jesus
is. It allows a person to see themselves clearly, to see the things
about themselves that needs to be changed. It also allows a person
to see the things of this world that needs to be changed. The healing that
Jesus provides also allows a person to speak correctly. To speak
words that are “gracious, seasoned with salt,” (Colossians 4:6.) Or
as written in Ephesians 4:29, “ Let no evil talk some out of your mouths,
but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words
may give grace to those who hear.” Our words should be the truth
spoken in love. So that when we speak it is for the upliftment and
betterment of those around us.
When Jesus touches us, he heals us in
body, mind, and spirit. He enables us to hear, see, think, and speak
the way that we should. In a way that glorifies God, makes us more
like Christ, and helps those around us.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, heal me. Let me hear,
see, think, and speak like a Christian. Amen.
Thought for the day: When wounded healer heals that
will give the best results.
