Master Healer

“… your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” - Mark 5:34

In Mark 5:24-34 we read about how a woman’s faith in Jesus’ healing power helped in her own healing. She had been suffering from bleeding for a dozen years. She had tried various treatments, but nothing worked. Upon hearing about Jesus’ miracles she decided to secretly touch Jesus’ cloak in the faith that that would be enough to heal her.  It worked!  As soon as she touched His cloak, she was healed. Jesus recognized the power that caused her healing, had her acknowledge the “whole truth,” and said to her, “your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

There are numerous accounts of Jesus’ healing miracles in the Bible, and they show that He used a variety of approaches to heal His people.  Many are healed by touching the edge of Jesus’ cloak (Mt. 14:36; Mk. 6:56), while others that are healed by the power of His physical touch (Mk. 5:41; Mk. 7:33).  Jesus healed the centurion’s servant by the power of His Word (Mt. 14:36; Mk. 6:56), and the blind man, Bartimaeus, was healed because of his faith in Jesus (Mk. 10; Lu. 18).  There are also numerous instances where Jesus healed those that are brought to Him because of the faith of others (Mk. 2:3), and by the prayer of others (Mk. 7:26).

The recurrent theme in all the healing incidents is faith of the people in Jesus. Everyone, at least at some point in their life, needs healing. Most commonly we seek healing for our medical, physical and/or psychological conditions. However, there also may be spiritual and personal situations that are making us ill and leave us yearning for a freedom from our suffering.  We may have tried various approaches to stop the so called ‘bleeding,’ but our condition may be getting worse. We may be longing for that secret touch of God to heal us without further embarrassment about our current condition. The example of the woman and others who are healed by their faith in Jesus, should serve as sources of encouragement for us to try Jesus.  In faith, we should acknowledge the “whole truth” about our situation and seek to touch the Master Healer. His power will stop our ‘bleedings’ immediately and will free us from our burdens.

Prayer : Dear Lord Jesus, you know the areas in our lives that need healing. Help us to identify our ailments, experience your healing touch, and be freed from our sufferings.
