READINESS TO SHARE THE GOSPEL

2 Kings 5: 1-15
Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.”    (2 Kings 5:3)
In the modern world, brand ambassadors, often celebrities appointed by a company play a major role in making their products and services popular and marketable. The credentials and popularity of celebrities are the decisive factors in selecting them to be brand ambassadors for a company.
Unlike the world’s standards, God uses simple people as the ambassadors of the gospel, the foolish, weak, base and despised of the world (1 Cor. 1:27-29). The power of gospel is not in the qualifications of people that carry it, but in the gospel itself. In the text for today, we see a young girl becoming a sharpened instrument in the hands of God, when she was ready to share what she knew about her God and is a powerful example for the believers of all time.

Readiness to share the gospel –an expression of faith: Many in Israel, even the King at that time -Jehoram, did not know where to turn for help in difficult situations (2 Kings 3:10, 5:7) and lacked faith in God . But this young girl knew of the prophet of God in Israel and the mighty works God has done through him. She was absolutely sure that if her master will go to the prophet, he will be healed from his leprosy and she shared that with those who did not even worship the living God.

Readiness to share the gospel- in the midst of unfavorable circumstances: Being a captive in a foreign land, this girl has been going through bitter experiences in her life, away from her home and beloved ones and without any possibility of freedom ever in her life. However her circumstances did not affect her faith. For her it was not the situations that defined the character of God, but it was the unchanging promise of God himself and what he has done in the past for the people of Israel. She was willing to share that good news with the people who made her captive, when they were in trouble.

The faith of this girl and her readiness to share the gospel transformed her master. He was healed completely and was transformed from an idol worshipper to a person who acknowledged the living God of Israel, saying, “Indeed, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel”. God has called all of us to be his witnesses, not based on our own qualifications, but because of his grace. Our availability and readiness to share the gospel will transform many lives around us.

Prayer: Lord, Give us the boldness to share the gospel and make us good instruments in your hands to accomplish your purpose through our lives. Amen
