RE(NEW) RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
1 Corinthians 3:10-15
for we are fellow workers in God's service; you are God's field God's buildings.
Many of us would have witnessed a number of fights in the churches we attend and seen various groups emerging claiming themselves to be right. The church in Corinth was no different. It was going through a similar phase. There were groups and this want good. Chapter 3 deals with this very issue of the church. Paul in this portion states that though he is the one who laid the foundation, it was someone else who was building it. But as we progress our reading he stresses that it is Christ Jesus alone who is the founder of the church and the one who has laid the foundation.
As Peter in his epistle 1 Peter 2:6 taken from Is 28:16 states that He i.e. Jesus is the Corner stone and that the Church was built on Him. Paul goes on to say neither gold, not silver nor precious stones, wood, hay, straw could become the foundation except Christ Jesus. And in the last Day when He comes, the refiner fire will show the real intentions of the church, if it was built on Christ or was it built on earthly riches. The 'Day' indicates the Day of Judgment when all will be brought forth what is hidden in their heart.
As the church meditates on the theme Hudos Eetho: Renewal of Church, the call for us Christians is to re-evaluate ourselves, rethink of our faults, rethink whom we were standing for? Was it for Christ or for ourselves? The time is to renew our lives with Christ and the Church becoming the Temple of the Lord (1 Cor 6:19). And as we do, we need to weigh our intentions and desires, of what we do in church, how our attitude is during worship and during other activities. We need to remember that the glory belongs to Christ alone. The church's foundation is Christ Jesus, not us. We are called to have renewed relationship with Him who renews us and unites us with Him as ONE (Rom 12:5, 1 Cor 12: 12) and participate with HIM in the building of the Church.
PRAYER
Lord, help us to be renewed today and everyday, Amen.
